Is Couples Coaching Right For Us?
Whether you’re in a serious relationship, engaged, or married, every relationship requires attention. Perhaps your relationship is facing a crisis, and you’ve considered the possibility of separation or divorce. Or maybe you and your partner just need a ‘tune-up’ with some guidance on how to reconnect.
Couples coaching can help to break toxic habits and build new and better ones. It can strengthen healthy relationships and repair the hurt after infidelity, addiction and constant conflict.
During sessions, your therapist will explore a variety of topics, including communication styles, conflict resolution, love languages, and strategies for reconnecting. Many of our therapists are trained in techniques by marriage experts such as Drs. John and Julie Gottman and Dr. Gary Chapman.
Some of our clinicians also offer Discernment Counseling (DC), designed for couples uncertain about their decision to remain in the marriage, helping them gain clarity and confidence in their choices.
Insurance and Scheduling
For insurance companies to cover treatment, a mental health diagnosis is required, with the focus of therapy centered on addressing that condition. Relationship distress itself is not considered a mental health condition, so insurance will not cover treatment if the goal is to strengthen your relationship or help determine whether you want to stay together.
For these reasons, we offer a couples coaching program that is private pay. This allows your clinician to focus exclusively on helping to improve your relationship, without worrying about fulfilling insurance obligations. Couples coaching is a weekly or biweekly treatment that is goal-oriented and typically lasts 3-6 months.
